Though post-credits stingers have now become the norm in superhero movies thanks to the folks at Marvel Studios, Sony did something a bit different for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Instead of teasing The Sinister Six or Venom with an after-credits scene, audiences were instead treated to a brief clip from Fox’s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. This was due to a deal in which Sony agreed to promote Fox’s X-Men film for free in return for Fox allowing director Marc Webb to breach his contract with that studio and direct the Spider-Man sequel instead of another Fox Searchlight film. If you missed the X-Men tease in theaters, the clip has now been made available online. It’s a hastily edited sequence that involves Mystique, Toad, and young William Stryker, and I still don’t see how this wasn’t incredibly confusing for audience members that were expecting a Spider-Man stinger. Are they now expecting Spidey to pop up in Days of Future Past? X-Men: Days of Future Past opens in theaters on May 23rd.
